Today is day 99 of a little thing called The 100 Day Project. It’s an Instagram project, encouraging creaters to create for 100 consecutive days, and post a picture of it each day to Instagram. I found out about this project just before I launched the blog, and so I thought it would be a fun thing to join.
It was.
It’s been 99 days. I have some observations.
-Instagram is such a fascinating little community. Well, maybe I shouldn’t use the word little. But community certainly is the perfect descriptor. And there are super-talented people all over it, which means you get to see what they’re doing that day. Inspiring doesn’t cut it: need better adjective.
-There are people that like the same stuff as you all over the world. I just so happen to like gardening. Some of my real-life friends do, but not a lot. And I would like for them to stay my real-life friends, so there exists a very specific threshold of gardening discussions that one should not cross. {If you’re into smokey eyeshadow, please don’t bring it up more than once a coffee date. I’m polite, but everybody has their limit.} Enter Instagram. Less of a discussion over coffee, and more of a beautiful photo of the crookneck squash you just plucked. Pretend I just typed thirty-fifteen smiley face emojis here. {And yes, bitty E says thirty-fifteen is a number.}
-There are people I started following that I found through this project that I want to keep following. Bored at work? Check out these accounts:
@nargolarefi: #100daysoflefthandedpainting. She’s a little behind, but WHO CARES.
@camileo: #100daysofpeoplesshoes. Ok, maybe not inspiring, but fascinating.
@jillwalshphoto: #100daysofflowerphotos. Gorge.
@kejalmacdonald: #100daysofmotherhood. Grace and wit as her ammo in the hard days? Sign me up.
-I don’t know about you, but sometimes I need a little push to do something. This project pushed me to get the blog going, to get the Instagram going, to do something more productive than watch Project Runway PBS documentaries with my free time.
So, thanks @elleluna. I sure have enjoyed it. And maybe I’ll see you again in 265 days?
