The garden plan for this year definitely included a solid dose of cheapness.
As I selected what seeds I wanted to start, I thought about what costs the most to buy, of the stuff we actually eat, and let that influence my choices. Right at the top of that list are tomatillos, which are typically $3.99/lb in these parts. And we use a lot of them to make a little something called tomatillo saulsa.
{© David, and you know he thinks he’s a genius for coming up with that word.}
It is, of course, a cross between a salsa and a sauce, and it’s delish. {I will put the recipe up on here at some point…} Anyway, it requires tomatillos, and we eat a lot of it, and one plus one still equals two, so I’m going to try to grow the ones from Baker Creek .
Apparently, we are only growing tomatillos, actually.
I thought I only planted two or three seeds per cell but they must have had little seed babies as some of them had four, five, six plants in there.
I assumed that they are like tomatoes and planted them deep upon re-potting so that all those little side hairs will form into actual roots like a tomato would–here’s to hoping that was the right call.
The bitties were most helpful, if by most helpful I mean that they argued over the same toy the entire time we were outside.
Dance break.
They also had a snack.
Off to check on my rabbits, er, tomatillos.
